Hi guys,

I've imported a list of all MudConnect.com MUD listings that have been modified in the past 30 months.

If said MUD belongs to you, please register on the site, then click on the game listings menu. Search for your MUD. When you find it, click "Read More" and then on the loading page "Claim Listing". In the text box that opens, please let us know what MUD category it should be in:
  • MUSH
  • PvP MUD
  • Hack and Slash MUD
  • RPI MUD
  • General Hybrid MUDs (basically MUDs that combine rp, hack and slash and/or pvp)

Ensure your MUD's connection info is up to date and then in your MUD's start up text, enter the following text:

MUDListings.com Listing Claim Username: <Username>

Where <Username> is the username you registered with on the site, and which you used to claim the listing.

Once we've confirmed you do indeed own/have access to the MUD code in question, we'll approve your claim request.

If the MUD is already claimed by an Admin who is no longer active and cannot be contacted, please send us a message with the above information in the message content.

Any questions, please send me a private message.

Thanks!

Gicker

A question: Is this site mainly for new Muds under development?
If not, maybe the criteria of only moving muds where the entry in TMC has been changed in the last 30 months may not be a good one.

My Mud, 4 Dimensions, is not in the list here, and to be sure, the input in our listing on TMC hasn't been touched in ages. That doesn't however mean that the mud is not active and being continuously developed. There just hasn't been any reason for us to change any info in the TMC listing.

I suspect the the same can be said for a lot of the older and well established Muds on TMC, so the problem may be general.

I assume the 30 month criteria was an attempt to keep from listing unsupported and dead MUDs. I could see an argument being made for nabbing any listings over 30 months old that actually connect, but I think still some measure of manual checking over some of these listings will be necessary if that route is taken.

And this reminds me of another suggestion I had for TMC that I think would be useful here... Being able to flag AND sort/list MUDs based on whether the game is just "up" or if the game is being actively developed/supported. Some games retain their connection, admins will restart if it goes down, but ultimately they aren't actively seeking/recruiting players, aren't actively developing or adding new content.... essentially games that aren't brought down because someone might want to play them, and if you find it, then cool, but it is what it is. Others may maintain listing/connections just for nostalgia or archival purposes (I do this with Cleft of Dimension, which is basically a snapshot of what that game was before we split off and created End of Time).

Yeah, the original MUD list had over 1300 MUDs. Molly makes a good point about older, established MUDs not needing to update their listing, but I really don't want 800 or 900 dead listings on the site either.

It's quite easy to add a new listings, though i realized that the mobile menu was not expanding submenus, so Molly, you might have missed that functionality if you were browsing through your phone. I'll fix that.

So my proposed solution was to go through the top 100 list on TMC and TMS and add those MUDs manually if they're not already in there, or fill out the details if they are. Then the owners can claim the listings if/when they choose to do so.

As far as allowing the ability to sort listings based on whether they're active/up or not, that's doable. However, whether they're actively developed or not, I'm not sure how to track that beyond listing owners ensuring their listing is kept up to date in that regard. I do have a MUD status field, but it might make more sense, to have two spearate fields: one for mud status (defunct, early development, testing phase, fully operational) and development status (no longer developed, occasional development, regular development, active development).

Did you have something else in mind in that regard?

So a single script run as a cron job once per day could do the following:
-check if the mud is online
-if so increase online counter by one
-if not set online counter to zero and increase offline counter by 1
-if offline counter reaches a certain threshold (say 30 days) then the listing entry would be unpublished
-alternatively, the listing could have mud status set to defunct and development status set to no longer under development.

We could allow people to sort by the above online field, so MUDs that are very stable would be shown higher than newer MUDs or MUDs that have downtime sometimes.

Molly, I added 4 Dimensions and gave you ownership of it. Please edit the listing and fill in the blanks and correct any errors I've made in added it.

Cheers!
